Dr Dusty Rose Mezack is a metaphysician, field practitioner, Wound-er-ologiest™, storyteller, and the creator of Wounderology™ and MedBed Doula™. Her work brings together lived experience, compassionate pattern awareness, animal stewardship, spiritual inquiry, and laughter.
At the center is a simple promise: see the person, not the label. Dust offers language that restores choice and honors the wisdom people carry about their own experience.
No person is reduced to a wound, diagnosis, role, or difficult chapter.
Information should create choices—not take a person’s authority away.

The question about time
On a Friday evening in a busy family restaurant near a major interstate, a young woman sat with an older man. He held both phones, ordered for her, and repeatedly spoke or interjected when she was asked simple questions. She looked to him before answering. A visible bruise and his agitation when she moved away added to the pattern.
Near the restroom, she quietly asked: “Do you know what time it is?”
What to notice
- Who controls the phones, ordering, money, and conversation?
- Does the person look to someone else before answering?
- Does the companion become agitated when the person moves away?
- Is a harmless-sounding question creating a brief chance for private contact?
What the observer does
- Notice the whole pattern without announcing a conclusion.
- Stay calm and avoid confronting the companion.
- Use a private moment only if it can be done safely.
- Ask what the person needs and let them guide the next step.
The lesson is not to declare a verdict from one detail. It is to recognize several signals together and create a safer opportunity for the person to communicate.

One detail alone proves nothing. Pay attention when isolation, fear, sudden changes, and control over money, identification, a phone, travel, or speech appear together.
Create a private, low-pressure moment when safe. Ask simple questions, listen without judgment, and let the person guide what help they want.
Do not confront a possible controller, force disclosure, create a scene, secretly post someone online, or promise what you cannot guarantee.
The Black Spot: check in safely
A black dot or spot drawn on someone’s palm has been shared online as a possible silent request for help. It is not a universal or official trafficking signal, and a mark by itself does not prove abuse.
Look at the whole situation
- Notice fear, control, injuries, isolation, or someone speaking for the person.
- Do not photograph, post, or publicly identify them.
Offer a calm check-in
- If it is safe, create a private, low-pressure opportunity.
- Ask: “Are you okay?” and “Would you like me to contact someone?”
- Listen, offer choices, and let the person guide the next step unless there is immediate danger.
Know the one-handed Signal for Help
A silent request for a safe check-in: palm out, thumb in, then fingers close over the thumb.
The signal asks for a safe check-in. It is not automatic proof of a crime and not always a request to call police. If there is immediate danger in the United States, call 911.

Community care in motion
Whisker Roundup™
For more than twenty years, Thomas quietly walked the streets of town feeding community cats in every kind of weather. When his health declined and he could no longer make those daily walks, Dust promised him that his cats would always be fed.
That promise became Whisker Roundup™. Today, Thomas’s legacy lives in every bowl filled, every cat cared for, and every practical step toward a more compassionate, responsible community.
Whisker Roundup provides colony support, foster care, humane trapping and transport, spay-and-neuter help, recovery care, and community education in Williams, Arizona.
Who needs help now
Thirteen kittens. One October goal.
All 13 kittens currently in care still need to be spayed or neutered. The working goal is October 1–5, 2026, as appointments become available—with Mischief, Lovey, and White Momma Blue included among the remaining priorities.
The working goal is to move the full group through spay or neuter care October 1–5.
They are the next two cats Dust is working to get safely into care.
One more unfixed female remains part of the October goal when she can be located.

Ron plans to begin before the snow. Dust is purchasing a $400 base enclosure, and Ron will reinforce, customize, and expand it into a secure four-season care space.

The planned connection: a protected tunnel from the cattery into the laundry room, giving the cats a safe route between indoor care and their enclosed outdoor space.
